Waimangu Volcanic Valley is the multi Eco Tourism Award winning Rotorua destination that everyone should experience. Created by the devastating 1886 eruption of Mount Tarawera, it is unique worldwide as the only geothermal system whose origin can be pin-pointed to an exact day.
Amazing geothermal activity and two of the largest hot springs in the world - Frying Pan Lake and Inferno Crater Lake - draw visitors from all over the globe. Walking and hiking trails and tours for all ages and fitness levels lead through cool native New Zealand forest to steaming volcanic craters and streams, newly forming silica terraces, rare thermal plants and panoramic vistas.
Boat cruises on picturesque crater Lake Rotomahana run 6 times daily.
Allow 2 hours for walk and 3 hours for combined walk and boat cruise. Open every day from 8.30am. Last admission at 3.45pm (January 4.45pm). Last boat cruise at 3.15pm (January 4.10pm).
