Allan Scott first came to Marlborough in 1973 to plant the original grapes in Marlborough. Two years later he planted the family’s first vineyards supplying grapes to Marlborough’s emerging wine industry.
Allan and Catherine established their own winery in 1990 in Rapaura, the premium winegrowing area of Marlborough and produced their first vintage of Sauvignon Blanc that same year. The modern fully equipped winery specializes in the production of the aromatic varieties; Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris which are perfectly suited to the gravelly soils that predominate in the vineyards. Traditionally made Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are also produced.
The restaurant, “Twelve Trees” named after the 75 year old trees that surround the property, has become one of the most popular lunchtime venues in Marlborough attracting both locals and visitors alike. In summer the shaded leafy courtyard, with its fountains and elegant topiary, provides a calm and cool oasis for guests while in winter the cosy interior with its rustic European style charm and open fire provides a warm welcome. Add to this the great seasonal menu featuring fresh Marlborough produce and the Scotts famous wines and it is an unbeatable combination.
Allan Scott Wines still remains in family ownership. Of immense pride to Allan is the fact that the whole family is involved in the business. Son Josh is winemaker and daughter younger daughter Sara is the viticulturist - ALLAN SCOTT – FAMILY WINEMAKERS
