Whangaroa Accommodation and Attractions
Whangaroa Information
Whangaroa Harbour – "A Singular and Beautifully Romantic Place" as described by Captain Richard A Cruise, commander of the British naval supply ship Dromedary in March 1820. In the years between 1850 and 1909, over 100 ships were built at the shipyards in the harbour. Those days are past but the unspoilt beauty remains.
Whangaroa's scenery is awe-inspiring, with towering sheer bluffs and volcanic rock formations protruding through steep forested shores, its colours reflected in tranquil water. Whangaroa remains an unspoiled natural resource, ideal for rest and relaxation. It's fishing is legendary. With its sub tropical summers, warm winters and Northland lifestyle, Whangaroa Harbour offers the ideal destination for a family holiday or romantic getaway.
Whangaroa is also known as the "Marlin Capital of New Zealand!" The Cavalli Islands nearby are renowned for world class game fishing. Marlin have even been caught from within the harbour!
