Your hosts - the Monk family (Winston and Bernard, along with their mother and late father "Ham") have been in the hotel business at Paroa for over 54 years.

Our unique hotel (built of stone) offers a licensed restaurant, choice of two bars and a bottle store. We also provide superb accommodation in our 12 well-appointed, modern (recently refurbished) motel units.

Paroa Hotel/Motel is located on the main highway just 8km south of Greymouth and we are just minutes away from Shantytown, one of the largest and most popular tourist attractions in the South Island. Set in relaxing garden surroundings, we are only a 2 minute stroll from an unspoilt beach. From the beach, Mount Cook can be seen rising out of the sea and our breathtaking sunsets have to be seen to be believed.

The West Coast is world renown for scenic attractions which include Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers, unique pancake rocks and blowholes of Punakaiki, majestic snow-capped Southern Alps mountain range, rugged Tasman Sea coastline, crystal clear rivers and lakes (well stocked with game fish), and lush green rainforests.
