Hamilton is near the southernmost navigable reach of the Waikato River, amidst New Zealand's richest and most fertile agricultural land. Initially an agricultural service centre, it now has a growing and diverse economy.

Drive south down State Highway 1 (SH 1) from Auckland. Drive northbound on SH 1 from Taupo, or connect to SH 1 from Rotorua or the Bay of Plenty.

Hamilton International Airport hosts mostly domestic flights, with regular flights from Auckland and Wellington as well as flights from other cities. The airport is occasionally closed by fog on winter mornings.

* The Agricultural Fieldays at Mystery Creek.

* Hamilton Gardens is also a really nice place to go and see. It has many wonderful gardens and is a great wedding venue.

* Hamilton Zoo is another attractive place to visit. Kids love it.
